Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)

The previous barring lists (POCA, POVA and List 99) have been replaced by the creation of two new barred lists administered by the ISA rather than several government departments. Checks of these new lists can be made as part of an Enhanced CRB check. They are called the Childrens’ and Adults’ Barred Lists.

Employers, social services and professional regulators have a duty to refer to the ISA any information about individuals who may pose a risk, ensuring potential threats to vulnerable groups can be identified and dealt with.

Where an individual has been referred to the ISA due to harming; causing harm; putting at risk of harm; attempting to harm; or inciting another to harm a child or vulnerable adult, the ISA will consider all available relevant information in deciding if it is appropriate to add that person to one or both the barred lists.

This process will include requesting relevant information from other organisations including for example, employers, police and local authorities. The individual referred will also be given the opportunity to make representations.

Jodie Leonard is very experienced in this area and has assisted clients from the start of proceedings in making representations to prevent inclusion on the lists, right through to appeal hearings once inclusion is confirmed.

We can provide this service either under a fixed fee agreement or at an hourly rate, to give you peace of mind from the outset. Telephone Jodie for a free, no obligation chat.

Please note, we are unable to assist you if you are not in the south west area.
